Summer, Summer, Summer

So you probably read the title and groaned a little, because as much as I doubted it was possible, even I’m getting sick of myself and my obsession for summer tunes.

The new year is here and my best friends and I are plan on making 2018 one of our best years yet, so of course, we snagged all the gigs and concerts we could.

Starting with The Kooks tomorrow night.

If you didn’t know, I also updated my most recent gig guide, which you should check out if you haven’t caught the added gigs to the post, but majority of those concerts and gigs are happening in the summer of 2018. Which is why, for me, good music is crucial. Probably sound just a tad dramatic and cliche, but I can pinpoint nearly every summer for the past couple of years, and align it with a specific soundtrack. Last year was a bunch of dance music from artists like Don Diablo, Pnau, RAC, Dom Doll and Torro Torro, the year before a mix of indie and indie pop bands I was finally discovering. Summer gives me the perfect opportunity to find new music and as per usual, add it to my summer playlist on Spotify.

Today I’m going to be sharing, my TOP TEN summer songs, as well as a bunch of my other favourite songs from my summer playlist. There’s nearly 500 songs on that playlist, so it’s definitely worth checking out if you want some vibes for summer. Let’s kick it off.

Beware The Dog – The Griswolds: This is probably my favourite song by The Griswolds. Not only is it a great summer song, but it’s the perfect song for walking across the city during university at a quick pace because your train was late as per usual and you have a tutorial that starts in exactly two minutes.

What You Know – Two Door Cinema Club: I feel like everyone knows this song, but not necessarily the name or the band. It’s a classic summer song.

Pacing – Tep No: I’m a HUGE Tep No fan, just patiently waiting for his music to get the praise and attention it deserves, because he is so underrated. Especially for summer. No summer is a real summer for me, without some Tep No.

Atlas – COIN: One of my discoveries two years ago, and it turned into an obsession. I love the band in general, but this song just reminds me of the beach, Venus Bay, a holiday beach spot I went up to with my best friends, which I’m heading back to on the 4th, and for some reason Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups.

How To Fly – Sticky Fingers: The tragedy that is Sticky Fingers lives on, cannot die, no can do, will not accept. This is in my top three Sticky songs and it’s perfect for chill summer days spent doing nothing.

Rumour Mill – Rudimental, Anne-Marie, Will Heard: Every bone in my being is praying that Rudimental play this song at the Australian Open on the 21st, because it’s my favourite song by the group, ever since I first heard it in 2015. Anne-Marie? Obsessed. Will Heard? Double obsessed. No faults with the song. Absolute favourite.

Sun Models – ODESZA, Madelyn Grant: ODESZA is a staple in any summer playlist, this song especially.

Over & Over- Smallpools: Smallpools is another band that I believe I was a late comer to. They are incredible and I only really jumped on the wagon at the start of 2016. This song, and American Love are my top two favourite songs, but this song especially for summer.

Diane Young – Vampire Weekend: Again, another song I believe a lot of people know, but can’t trace. Well here it is.

All Cried Out – Blonde, Alex Newell: This is a sing-a-long song. Such a tune, perfect for summer, perfect for music festivals, incredible.
