There’s a special place in my heart for songs that are made for singing along to. They immediately kick any party into the next gear, and friendships are made, screaming lyrics into a complete strangers face on the dance floor of a night club.
Sing along songs are people pleasers, and because I try my best (mostly failing) to be one too, here’s a list of ten of my favourite songs to sing along to . . . in a group or completely alone.
Bohemian Rhapsody – Queen: This song does something to people. I don’t know what it is but everyone loses their shit, doesn’t matter what background, race, gender or religion you are. It’s incredible.
King Kunta – Kendrick Lamar: The only thing I think of whenever I listen to this song is my mum’s face at my 18th as she watched all my friends and I screech this song word for word in my back yard, her hand over her heart.
See You Again – Miley Cyrus: Nothing has ever been better in my whole life, than flipping over the Hannah Montana CD, only to discover that in the back was the Miley Cyrus CD as well, and realising I just got blessed with the best of both worlds. This song, will forever be my favourite song by any Cyrus child.
Mr. Brightside – The Killers: Another song that just transcends people into tribal insanity. I’m not complaining. It just continues to defies science.
Respect – Aretha Franklin: Nothing by respect for my queen.
Escape (The Pina Colada Song) – Rupert Holmes: I never understood this song until actually listening to it and finding out that the guy wants to cheat on his wife so Ok Cupid’s himself, only to find that the side chick he ends up with, is said wife, who was looking to cheat on him too, and all of it could have been avoided if they just opened up about their shared loves of pina coladas, the rain and midnight chats. Honestly.
Issues – Julia Michaels: This song is so low-key, but it goes so hard. She hardly screams it, but you best bet that everyone else does.
Don’t Stop – 5 Seconds Of Summer: You’re definitely obligated to choose your own instrument and pull your weight in solos and performance, while singing along. This song is also a great tune for car rides with friends. Just stay safe.
I Will Wait – Mumford & Sons: This was probably when generations the world over opened up a little bit in their hearts for Mumford & Sons to fill with their lil bit of country love. I go hard with this one.
Kiwi – Harry Styles: Surely you didn’t think we’d get through this list without the song of all songs for singing along to. I know Harry Styles wrote this song with the knowledge that it would only result in thousands of fans screaming the chorus at him.
Now you already should have expected this, but I definitely have a playlist of sing-along songs, which you can find here, on my Spotify (which you might as well follow while you’re there plugplugplug).
