The Society – A Playlist

So. The Society happened, and it took over a good two days of my life. Can’t say I regret any of it, but now I’m not sure what to do with myself until the next season comes out. If the next season comes out.

So naturally, I did what I do best, and staked out all the songs that I shazaam-ed during my binge, to curate a playlist for you all. The music in this show is incredible. I’m definitely biased because of how much I loved this show, but it takes a lot for me to stop watching, rewind and try and shazaam a song. I even googled lyrics at one point.

Whoever chose the music for this song did an excellent job at finding the perfect songs for each moment. There are some incredible indie throwbacks, absolute soul belters that come out of nowhere, and that specific type of atmospheric song that just injects so much emotion into any scene. The Maze by the Manchester Orchestra was a huge standout for me. It’s such an uplifting moment within the show, and the music just partners with it perfectly, on God, I nearly started crying.

But anyway, here’s the playlist.

Personal Jesus – Depeche Mode
Just Like Heaven – The Cure
The Maze – Manchester Orchestra
bury a friend – Billie Eilish
I Know What Boys Like – The Waitresses
Byegone – Volcano Choir
Up All Night – The Boomtown Rats
Baby, Baby, Baby – Aretha Franklin
Future Club – Perturbator
Let You In – Pete Muller, Melissa Soltero
Go To Town – Doja Cat
Empire Of Our Own – RAIGN
In A Blackout – Hamilton Leithauser + Rostam
I Melt With You – Modern English

I’d love to know if any of you guys have watched The Society. I’d really appreciate having someone else to talk to and obsess with. Let me know if you listen to any of the songs in the playlist. It could be just me who found this soundtrack incredible, but if not, let me know in the comments!

    1. Ahh, I’m super bad at not spoiling TV shows when talking about it – but the basic premise is an entire grade of seniors have their senior trip cut short and have to return home, but when they get back the town is completely empty. When they try and drive to neighbouring towns, all the roads and train tracks out are covered by forest, so the show as of now has just explored the politics and how they have to end up running their own community! I really just gutted than explanation, it’s such a great show, I definitely recommend you give it a watch instead of relying on my shitty synopsis haha x

  2. Oh my goodness I am FOREVER shazaming songs I hear in the background of shows !! I always find so many great songs that way. I love this idea for a post / playlist and also, I’d love to hear you talk about the show more…sounds like something I’d really like! xx

    1. Ahhh yes Chloe! I love it but I hate it hehe. I may have already scheduled another one where I do speak about the show a little bit more so definitely keen an eye out!! Like Mia, gal, I reckon you’d love this show! So much representation and discussion on subjects that aren’t really touched, plus so much comedy blended really well into such harsh topics and issues! xx

  3. So you’d recommend the show? I have been debating on whether to watch it for a while now but the reviews tend to be extremely mixed – some people seem to hate it, some love it. It’s hard to know which ones to trust (and I really have to be selective, otherwise I’ d be watching 10 shows at once!) Great post, I listened to some of the songs and they seem very expressive and set the tone quite well (just from what I’ve seen in the trailer alone) xx

    1. Definitely!! I reckon you’d really like it, surface level itself it’s super interesting and the storyline and characters are really well written in my opinion, but there’s a lot to think about within the show that you don’t pick up on immediately while you’re watching it I think. I really enjoyed the series, and I’m just waiting on the next season to come out!! xx
